We're currently moving from AS/400 to SQL 2003. We're running SAP 4.6c and upgrading to ECC 6.0 SQL 2008.
New to SQL
We were thinking of doing a full offline backup weekly - incremental backups daily and logs every 2 hours.
Should we be running online backup through Management Studio.
We also need to backup usr/sap/trans directory.
IF we do a full windows offline backup and incremental backup (management studio) and logs (Management studio) will I be able to use the incremental backups once we restore with the windows backup.
I read articles that say that I will not be able to use incremental backups when you do a windows restore which includes the SAP database.
What's the best solution for backing up SAP with SQL and also include usr/sap/trans and able to restore with no problems.
Will this work if we do an offline full windows backup (not management studio) and we have a crash.
Restore from the windows backup but do not include SAP database and the use the online backups - incremental and logs from Management studio to do the restore.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
