Printing from SAP to Equitrac using @PJL SET HOSTLOGINNAME=userid command

Hi,

We are going to implement printing from SAP using our follow-me printing system (Equitrac Office/Express).

We discussed the following solutions:

1. Install a special LPD service provided by Equitrac on our printservers that would act as a front-end to the Windows follow-me print queues

2. Have the SAP servers submit print jobs to this LPD service

3. Add the command @PJL SET HOSTLOGINNAME=userid to all SAP print jobs to identify the real Windows username of the user instead of the SAP username

This solution requires an additional component on the Equitrac printservers: the EQXLPD print service to support the LPD protocol. However, the @PJL SET HOSTLOGINNAME feature isn't specific to this component, it can also be used when submitting jobs to the native Windows print queues.

Is it possible to use native Windows printing to print from the SAP servers? It would not be necessary to use the actual user's Windows credentials for connecting to the print server and submitting the job. A generic proxy account would suffice, if we can use the PJL SET HOSTLOGINNAME to map the job to the actual user.

Could you please help us, and if this is possible which "Host Spool Access Method" we have to use use in order to be able to add this command?

Thank you,

best regards,

Hi Florin,

printing via LPD is technically possible however based on its limited protocol capabilities you will loose status control and feedback to your SAP system about the status of your submitted documents. In addition you need to change the data stream on the print server to adapt it to the Equitrac requirements.

A far better more sophisticated and efficient way is to submit your print data using a certified SAP interface with "Host Spool Access Method" E to an output management server which interacts with Equitrac. As provider of output management software our Unix or Windows based OM system VPSX provides a certified SAP interface as well as an offical interface to Equitrac. With this you can spool your data using Access Method E to VPSX. Using VPSX the file is sent compressed and encrypted to VPSX and all file attributes like user, SAP title, SAP client, sending system,... are passed to VPSX. VPSX holds the data in a PullPrint/Follow2Me queue. If you identify at the printer Equitrac will evaluate your card ID and ask the VPSX OM system about queued files for this user. You can now request a Print All or select certain files displayed on the printer/box display. Then Equitrac will ask VPSX to print these files on the requested printer. In all stages VPSX does send the current status back to SAP so that the SAP user can always see the status of his documents. As VPSX uses also status feedback from the printers we can guarantee that the file has physically been printed and report this back to SAP. As all data is managed by this central print server additional processing like conversion, formatting etc is possible as well as central accounting.

LRS is a partner of SAP and has been selected by the SAP output factory team as their core OutputManagement system.
