Oracle Upgrade from version 10.2.0.2.0

Hi All,

We are planning to upgrade oracle version 10.2.0.2.0.

According to SAP Note : 871735

Currently available patch sets are

o Oracle patch set 10.2.0.5

o Oracle patch set 10.2.0.4

Question 1

My question is , can we go directly apply : Oracle patch set 10.2.0.5

or do we have to apply first Oracle patch set 10.2.0.4 and then Oracle

patch set 10.2.0.5.

Question 2

I understand we need updrage MOpatch and Opatch before we start the upgrade process.

Do i goto latest level of MOpatch/Opatch or are the specfic Mopatch/optach for oracle patch set?

I noticed on oracle-download section , sap has provided same version of mopatch/opatch for all oracle patch sets.

OPatch_10205_Generic_v0.zip

mopatch-2_1_8.zip

Question 3

According sap note : 1137346

We need to apply SAP Bundle Patches before we apply Oracle patch set

10.2.0.4 .

Does any one know what is the sap note listingt the SBP list for oracle patch set 10.2.0.5.

Thanks

You can apply directly 10.2.0.5 but I suggest you go for a real upgrade to Oracle 11g because the official support for Oracle 10g ends at the end of this month (see Note 1339724 - Oracle 10.2 Extended Support free until July 31, 2011). After this date you have to buy an extended maintenance to continue to run Oracle 10.

No.

You install the patchset 10.2.0.5 using runInstaller. Follow the Readme.htm that comes with that patch. After that you patch OPatch and you install the PSUs on top of 10.2.0.5.

I suggest you plan to go to Oracle 11g to not loose support.

Hi Markus,

Thanks for replying,

I am simply trying to follow simple and easy upgrade path.

I assume Upgrade to 11g is big step.

After upgrading to 10.2.0.5, i can start work on Oracle 11g upgrade.

1.So from what i understand If i apply upgrade to 10.2.0.5, I dont need to apply any interim patches.

2.I only need to download the oracle patch set 10.2.0.5 and apply it.

3.Once oracle patch set 10.2.0.5 has been applied, apply the 10.2.0.5 patch for Mopatch/opatch.

4.only then i need to apply PSUs.

Thanks I will follow that path.

Hi I just downloaded p8350262_10205_Generic.zip from oracle-download.

checked the readme file.

and it states following.

-

Date: Oct 6, 2010

-

Platform Patch for : Generic

Product Patched : 10.2.0.5.0

Product Version : Enterprise Manager Database Control

Bugs Fixed by this patch:

-

8350262:CREATE DBCONSOLE CERT WITH 10YEAR VALIDITY

Patch Preinstall Steps:

-

1. For non-recommended patches, you must have the exact symptoms

described in the service request (SR).

2. Verify the OUI Inventory.

OPatch needs access to a valid OUI inventory to apply patches.

Validate the OUI inventory with the following command:

% opatch lsinventory

If the command errors out, contact Oracle Support and work to validate

and verify the inventory setup before proceeding.

3. Please use the latest Version of OPatch.

Oracle recommends that all customers be on the latest version of OPatch.

Please review the following metalink note and follow the instructions

to update to the latest version if needed:

https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showNOT?p_id=224346.1

Readme file is telling me to apply the opatch before upgrading to Oracke patchset 10.2.0.5.0.
