Key-figures in the Planning Area

Dear Experts

As per my customer requirements, we got nearly 49 Key figures to be used in the planning area.

If we take more than 40 Key-figures when i click check button in the planning area screen system is prompting the following message:

Problem in performance due to large number of keyfigures.

What is the impact if we take 49 keyfigures in planning area?

If we increase the live cache memory, is this problem will be resolved?

Looking forward for your advice.

thanks

49 key figures is definitely on the higher side. A combination of factors affects performance in DP, but the four big ones are - number of CVC's, number of key figures, number of planning versions and bucket granularity (weeks/ months/ etc).

Make sure you use the SAP Quicksizer to determine hardware requirements. Follow guidelines in OSS notes for DP performance - 153909, 359671, 393655, 398726, 864950, 426806, 707789.

Aside from performance, other factors to consider -

1. For each key figure, where is the data going to come from ? If its manually maintained, thats a lot of work ! If its an automated feed, its still a lot of effort to build the necessary interfaces (BI/ external systems).

2. User Training - New end users take a lot of time to learn navigation/ functionality in DP. The higher the key figures, more the likelhood that users are see DP as 'complicated'.

Some suggestions -

1. Make sure you using DP for what it does best - Demand Planning. Its not meant for generic planning purposes -Use other SAP provided tools like BI-IP/ BPC if required.

2. Dont have any 'Just In Case' key figures. Since the last couple of releases of SCM, SAP has provided the ability to add key figures without de-activating the planning area.
