Number Range Issue

Hi SAP Experts,

We are facing the following Problem of Number ranges in Production.

In config , Number range - 79 is defined for one Territory . and its has the from and To value .We can see this in T-Code - VN01.

But when the Docs are generated ,the CURRENT number in the INterval is NOT been updated correctly ,it is a OLD no.

And there several docs created after the CURRENT no.

After reviewing all the document created till now ,it was found the numbers are randomly assigned, sometimes in future and sometimes in past.

Can you help me in identifyin the root cause for this and what could be the solution ?

Appreciating your quick reply.

Thanks and Regards,

Umesh Karane.

Hi,

Please check whether you have number range buffer settings. Instead of fetching the numbers each time from the database, a single access to the buffer suffices. Only when the buffer is empty, is it refilled from the database (table NRIV). Please look this for more details.

Hi,

Please check whether the number range object 79 is assigned to any other dopcument type.

I feel that this object is assigned to some other documents and hence the problem.

You create a new number range and assign it to the relevant document type and check

HI Phani,

Thanks for your quick response.

I have checked the Number range Assignmnet and this 79 number range is being assigned to fours doc types.

Hence it is being shared across for four doc types.

Ideally is it advisible to use a Number range for four doc types?

What could the solution for this?

Can creating a new number range and assigning it to the Doc type resolve the issue?

Hi,

Usually having the same no range for different document types is not advisable.Check the below scenarios

Factory Sales ,Depot Sales & Excisable depot sales cannot have the same number range.

Further scenarios like scrap sales, job work , sto, credit & debit memo etc should ideally have different number ranges.

In your case create a different number range object and check
