Yes, the maximum characters are 8.

Hope you are refering the Fuction in RAR.

Function is a four character alpha-numeric ID (Eg: GL02, SD05,MM02), where as the first two digits generally indicate the respective functional module in SAP and the next two indicate the serial number of the Fuction in the respective functional module.

Hi

In GRC we can use 8 alphanumeric characters ( max ) for defining Function ID . Organizations can decide their own naming conventions .

Note : Default functions consists of four-characters.
