Hello
My customer is in process to migrate SAP R/3 4.7 ext set 1.10 (WAS 6.20) system from Operating system Win 2000 to Win 2003. So for that customer has decided to go for Homogeneous system copy.
Please see below details for my source and target system.
Source System Details
SAP R/3 4.7 Extension Set 1.10 (WAS 6.20) (Non-Unicode system)
Database : Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0)
SAP Kernel : 6.40 patch level 247
Operating System : Win NT 2000
Target (Future) system Details
SAP R/3 4.7 Extension Set 1.10 (WAS 6.20) (Non-Unicode system)
Database : Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0)
SAP Kernel : 6.40 patch level 247
Operating System : Win 2003 Enterprise edition
We are just changing operating system from Win 2000 to Win 2003.
Please suggest what is the best recommended approach for the above scenario.
A)Export/Import (DB independent Method) - R3load
or
B)Oracle DB restore/recovery (DB dependent method)
I am referring Homogeneous system copy guide based on WAS 6.20. In guide Export/Import method is described as available method for Oracle database on windows platform.
cheers
Amit
Since it is a homogeneous copy, you can go both for export/import or backup/restore. In case you have a large database, I would go for the backup/restore, since export/import can take quite some time..
Kind regards,
Mark

I would prefer option 2.
I would also investigate option 3:
if your database is on a SAN, you can stop DB on source system, ask your SAN admin to re-allocate those LUNs from old server to new server and start database on the new one. Advantage of this solution: it would only cost you less than 30 minutes downtime. I did this solution twice in the past and as very happy with the results.
Hi Amit,
Probably it will work with both methods. However, I would follow the Hom. System copy guide step by step to assure the quality and stability of the copy. Please consider using the export/import method only for this case.

Francisco
