I believe the avaliable.log should be located in /usr/sap/<sid>/work, but I am unable to find this log. Does it needs to be activated?

u2018available.logu2019 is written by the SAP service sapstartsrv.exe. The service checks the status of the actual process list (like you can see in the MMC SnapIn under the u201CProcess Listu201D node).

What is you SAP release?
available.log wasn't there for older releases.
