Jre/JCe Policy use in SAP Installation.

Hi,

For SAP Installations I need to have jre & jce policy.Why we require these 2 in SAP Installations??Even if we install ABAP System do we require these??What are the versions of jre & jce policy we should use in windows/AIX environment?

Hi,

sapinst tool require java run time environment to run. That's why you need these files to install ABAP system. In case of ABAP system, you can uninstall jre/jdk after installation. But in As Java system, Java needs java run time environment always to run. Supported version is 1.4

Thanks Sunny for such a quick response..JRE, 'Java Rutime Environment' performs the execution of java programs but why we require jce policy in SAP Installation??Suppose if we have SAP EP running,I can understande we require jre but why jce is required??

SAP does not deliver the so-called "Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) Jurisdiction Policy" files as part of the SAP JVM. Without these files the cryptography functionality inside the SAP JVM is blocked. Therefore typical usage scenarios requiring cryptography, e.g. communication via HTTPS or storage of information in Secure Storages will not work anymore.
