We have heard that using client copy to bring over BI configuration to another system's client using SAP_CUST
is NOT desirable.
We have searched the internet for this topic but failed to find any explanation on this.
Could anybody help explain this?
Thanks a lot!
Hi Helen,
If you copy with SAP_CUST only customizing is copied. All master data is
deleted.
It's only the SAP_USER profile that won't overwrite customizing or data,
other than the user master data.
All the other profiles will delete everything from the old client and be
overwritten by the new client.

May I ask you more questions:
1) to avoid what you said from being happening, I will do this:
a) export usr master ;
b) use SAP_CUST to copy configuration;
c) import user master.
Is above OK?
2) You said:

I think what you said is also TRUE for ECC and other SAP products, why for ECC we can use SAP_CUST
to copy configuration data over without the said concern?
Thanks again.
Hi Helen,
As per SAP's recommendation - a BW client copy between two different systems is not supported completely: Note 965206
Even if a client copy is performed it is recommended to be used for non-productive usage. Best option would be to perform a system copy. Note 886102 could give you more options for the planning the copy.

Srikishan
