To connect another OS to your current system you need to make sure that you have a database client and database interface library available. This is true only for Linux on Power (http://service.sap.com/pam). Linux on x86_64 is not supported as application server for iOS because there is no database client available.

Hi Markus,

Thanks for the reply, so are you saying i can't use the Redhat Linux for the Host-os400 and Database - DB400 Release V6R1.

We are planning for IPC on ECC Application server. That was the main reason we are going towards installation of application server for ECC. What would be your suggestion on this i will really apprecaite.

Thanks,

Mohammed

Hi Mohammed,

you are missunderstading Markus a bit ...

He wanted to tell you, that you can run application servers on linux on power, but not on linux on intel.

So, in general, it is supported to use redhat on power (iSeries & pSeries CPUs) CPUs. So, it would work.

If you wanted to run Linux on Intel, this is and was never supported - that is what Markus mentioned ...

Just to add:

You can use

Note 855455 - Setting up IPC if there is no platform support

which tells how to configure IPC on a different OS than your main OS.

You need however an application server that is able to connect to your database. In case of RedHat Linux you need to buy a machine with a Power CPU (in case of IBM you need pServer, not xServer).

--> SAP NetWeaver

--> SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s)

--> Installation
