Hello
Is it possible in the same COA for two company code, we can keep the number range 7 digit and 8 digit.
regards
Dear:
COA are not company code dependent they are defined at client level .GL account number range length depends on what you have defined in OB13. This is is for your information . You have to define number of digits a GL can comprise of. Hence you can not do that.

Hey
Thanks for the reply.....
I am asking it because of currently there is business going on SAP.....now they are going to introduce new company code using same COA..........
But there existing account group is totally mess up thing.......showing below:Account group,Description,Number range from and To
AS Fixed assets accounts 99999999
CASH Cash & Bank Accounts 99999999
GL General B/S Accounts 99999999
HR HR P& L Accounts 55000000 55009999
HRP HR Balance Sheet A/cs 13113000 13113289
LAIB Current laibality&Provisions 6000000 6500000
MAT Materials Management Accounts 99999999
PL Expences Accounts 50000000 59999999
RECN Reconciliation Accounts 99999999
REV Revenue Accounts 40000000 49999999
TAX Tax Accounts 13113400 24950000
so now for new company code they want to use some uniformity and in a proper way account group(that can have 7 digit acc number)......
what can be the standard practice for it.....
regards
regards
Dear:
OB13 specifies the maximum or minimum digits with which COA can be configured and hence GL can be opened. Account group configuration in OBD4 are done to maintain number range sequence for various account groups of financial statements in harmony. The scenario you have shown is pretty complex and since new company code also falls under same COA as were old hence it is not possible to create new account groups for that company.

Hello,
A comment from my side is the 'Length of G/L account number' (V_T004-SAKLN) allows up to the length of ten. In you case, you can specify 7 for seven digit numbers instead of 10 to avoid the prefix and postfix (if g/l account is in alpha-numeric charaters) zeros. It does't prevent the creation of g/l account with more than 7-digits for e.g. 12345678 / 123456789 / 1234567890.
It is not recommended to change the existing Chart or Account (CoA) number ranges as they had been posted with balances. The objective of using the same CoA is to make use of the same g/l account number ranges so as to facilitate consolidation of accounts balances from different co. codes.
There are two options for your requirement, i.e. make use of the CoA and account ranges from existing co. code, alternatively create a new CoA with 7 digit account number requirement. The former may be complex but have benefits on consolidation while the later method allows standardised g/l account in new co. code but requires mapping of new account series to corresponding account in existing co. code for consolidation companies account.
Kind regards,
John Chin
