Internal and External Portals be hosted & Configured on Same Portal server?

Hi Experts,

Is it possible to host and configure the Internal portal and External Portal on the same portal server?

If yes, kindly provide the inputs.

We have a scenario wherein we have to use the same portal server for both kinds of users (Internal as well as External).

We want to provide separate URLs for both the portals and the datasource for the users management would be different for both the scenarios.

The user managemnet in case of Internal Portal has to be authenticated to an AD server whereas in case of External Portal the user management would be taken care by UME.

Please suggest and share some docs if possible.

Thanks & Regards,

Anurag

Hi Anurag,

Configure the portal UME from cofigtool & point it to the AD.

Make sure you test the connection, before restarting the j2ee engine.

& you will be able to store users in both the UME's (AD & Portal UME).

PS: while creating the users, you have to select appropriate data source name from the drop down box.

Hi,

How can we provide two different URLs for the Internal and the External portals as we just have 1 portal server?

We want to use different datasource for both types of users for eg. the Internal users will be created and maintained in some LDAP server and we just want to use it for our Internal users authentication. Similarly, the external users will be self created in UME using SAP' s Self Registration functionality and they should be authenticated using UME only and not the LDAP. Is it possible?

Please suggest as how can we implement the same.

Best Regards,

Anurag

Hi,

Can we customise the Portal logon page for both the portals differently?

I've already customised the portal logon page by modifying the UME properties in the Config Tool but that was done keeping in mind the External Portal users. Now, we want to customise the page for Intranet users but with different options at the logon page.

How can we achieve this functionality as any property that we modify in either VA or Config Tool will affect both types of portal pages.

For an eg. we have a Self Registration link for the external users which we do not want for the Intranet users. How is this possible?

If we design a webdynpro java application for the logon page and for authentication purpose, can we call a home page iview on successful authentication?

And with this customised webdynpro java application, can we connect to the AD server for the user authentication?

Hi,

Any suggestion or solution to the problem Anurag posted on the forum? Any luck Anurag?

How about having both External Facing and Internal portal running on 2 different servers and configuring them to communicate in sharing information? I know this is not finacially effective than to configure these 2 facing portal running on the same server, but is this also possible and how?

Hello Anurag...

You can have portal URL alias concept to differentiate between internal and external portals.

Second you can create two separate desktops for the same.

Use main rule based on URL alias and load appropriate desktop....

I am not clear about how you will handle the UME part differently for different set of users.

For other part of your question...you can search for below strings:

"SAP Portal Main Rule"

"SAP portal Light Desktop for external facing scenarios"

"SAP Portal URL Alias"
