Batch characteristics

Dear Experts,

i have a material in which characteristics are maintained Quality code is one of the characteristic.under Quality code characteristic there are quality codes like q1,q2,q3.

In Material master i selected quality code q1.

I created a batch the q1 is inherited from material master.

if i try to change the quality code as xx or q2 in batch it is throwing error "Quality cd val xx or q2 not found".

By what configuration this scenario can be simulated in another server.

This is working in our production server but not working in staging server i want to configure my staging also as of production .
