Oracle DB restore on a different SAP system

Dear SAP gurus,

We are running our SAP ECC60 on Oracle and perfoming daily backups using DB13. We wanted to check if those backups are consistent and plan to restore the Oracle DB on our SAP ECC60 sandbox system.

Do you guys think that restoring our Oracle DB in the ECC60 sandbox system is feasible?Even though the SAP system has a different SID than the Oracle DB.

Thanks in advance, Marc

Hi Marc,

Are you planning to restore the succesfully backup, everyday? Technically, it is possible, even on a different SID. But, you should execute some steps, in order to change the DBSID.

You will just restore the datafiles and maybe start the database, but what if you face with corrupted db block problem? For example, database can be started succesfully, even the database has a db block and you will not be awared until you try to read or write somethings on it. So you need to execute "dbv", also and maybe many more steps. If you are thinking that you will restore the database in the daily basis, it will be very hard for you

Do you check only integrity of the datafiles, or perform a business scenario on it?

Best regards,

Orkun Gedik
