Hi All

I have a requirement from client in BOM.

Say the BOM material is XYZ.

It has many parts in it say A,B,C,etc.

Now they want an alternative material for A say A1.Both the materials are created.

Question is how to maintain both the materials under BOM XYZ??

So that we can use A or A1 according to the requirement.

Both are same but with different material numbers as it is procured by diff vendors.

Dear Adithya,

This can be mapped using the concept alternative items and combining the alternative items into a group.

Say items A,B,C are alternative and all these 3 can be used for assembling a product and you have to plan all these items.

Say X is the header material and while defining the BOM for X,maintain the items A,B,C with item category as L and the

respective BOM quantity say 10 ea for all these 3 items,which means either you can use complete 10 quantity of A or B or C or

a combination of all these items.

Select all these 3 line items in the BOM and goto Item details and define an alternative item group say A1 and define the

priority,selection method,usage probability.(the item group definition say A1 and the selection method has to remain same for all

the alternative items that's combined under one group).
