Hi Gurus,
Currently we are having landscape of :
1.SAP ECC6.0 SP stack at 17
2.Netweaver Portal 7.0 SP stack at 17
3.Netweaver BI 7.0 SP stack at 12
Currently, viewing BI reports using Portal.
We are planning to upgrade our ECC 6.0 system only to EHP5
My questions are:
1. Is it mandatory to upgrade netweaver portal and BI systems also.
2. We are very less dependent on BI. So, can we continue with the same old BI system with ECC6.0 upgraded to EHP5?
Please shed some light on this.
Thanks in Advance.
Regards
Balaji Nampally
Hi,
Generally speaking you have to keep the Portal dependancies
at equivalent SP levels to the back-end ECC -
For help >
Please see the following notes regarding the recommended
SP levels for ESS/MSS and ECC
1359937 EHP4: Further considerations for ESS/MSS
1303362 ESS/MSS and Enhancement Packages
The following note explains this:

The only dependency between Portal and backend is that Portal must have
the same or superior version Release (7.0, 7.1...).

Aidan

Hello Balaji,
Some portal instances have got ERP EHP components. You will notice this because there are components with names like BPERP05xxx , and some others. The thing is, if there are such ERP components in your portal systems, then you will have to update your portals to make the EHP components to have the same release.
Using Maintenance Optimizer will help you detecting these situations.
Best regards,
Miguel Ariñ

Hi,
We are in the same path right now and the client I am working on has BW 7.0 and portal in NW 7.0 (32 bits) and after asking SAP they wrote that it is recomended to go up in all NW systems but it is not mandatory. It is recomended for some new features and to keep the system up to date.
If SAP wrote this then you can espect no problem from the interaction from EP and BW to ERP.
