Oracle 8.1.7 installation hangs (for 4.6C system)

Hello,

We are trying to install SAP R/3 4.6C system on Windows 2000 Server (SP4).

In step 3.1.1. of the installation guide, during the last piece, when prompted for Net8 configuration we select "perform typical configuration" and hit the next button.

At this point the system does not proceed.

The following windows remain open:

1) Oracle installer, which has 100% complete and action says coping oradba.exe

2) Net8 configuraion window. Where I have to select the "perform typical configuration" and hit next.

One of the CPU runs 100% (I believe the file it runs is the jrew.exe).

Nothing else happens. Even if I let it sit there for few hours, nothing happens. Seems like some sort of infinite loop.

Has anyone come across this before?

Thanks for your help.

ss

Add the ip address of the host in the WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc hosts file

syntax for this is

<ip address> hostname

and then start the installtion

if u are not connected to a network then install MS loopback adapter and assign an ip address to it

Thanks for the info, Siva.

The problem turned out to be the RDP connection. I had RDP'd to the server and was trying to install the SAP system. Tried the whole installation process at least 15 times, starting from formatting the disk, but kept getting stuck at the same location.

I knew it was going to be something very silly/small.

Appreciate your help!
