Gurus
We have one user in ESS and have assigned that to one employee in IT 105, while logging in to ESS with that User, able to login, but system is not displaying any data for that user, while I checked the employee, no such user is available in R/3 but employee number is available, is that necessary to create user in R/3 for for every ESS user
If so, our R/3 users are 50, and employees are 350, and with 350 ESS licenses. So how to achieve this
Thanks
kumar
You have to assign the roles in backed for the user! Ie the user has to exist in r/3 with the required ESS role

If that is the case, we have only 100 R/3 users and 500 ESS users, if we create 500 users in R/3, the licensing issues will come into picture rite? If that is the case how to deal this
100 r3 users : different kind of licenses these 100 users should be able to do more than just ess-based stuff,.. what I mean to say is these guys must be the users who do finance/logistics/payroll et al in back end. Sap charges a different kin dof license fee for these users.
now your 500 ess users: yes you must create these 500 users int he backend r3 but these user-types are of a different licensing model from teh above 100 users, ... in the sense that these guys will have only ess related authorisations and nothing else.
does that clarify things to you?
now for ess to work:
you need portal user-id with portal roles attached --> this is then mapped to backend r3 user-id with r3 roles attached,... now the r3 user id must be maintiane in it0105-syuname.
finally the portal user id and the r3 user id can be the same. confused? talk to your friendly basis consultant.
cheers
500 ess userss not necesaarily will have logon to R/3 ,
usually users having licences to backend are HR admins and again these are separated by different licences.

You could find the definition / Examples of ESS from SAP Service
Marketplace ( http://service.sap.com/licenseauditing ).
you would have to get in touch with your Accounts Executive at SAP
yes pernr is attached to the user in IT0105
Pernr data is shown then in portal
User is assigned the ESS or MSS or R/3 roles!
Just check how pernr is maintained@!

Hi,
1. But are these Portal Roles MAPPED in Identity Management to the respective R3-Users / R3-Roles (Users, Roles dependant on how you do the mapping in your company)?
2. Do the Users in R3 have the respective R3 Roles so they even have the Authority not only to see but also to use the respective Portal Roles?
regards, Lukas
You have to have a employee hired corresponding to the ESS login. The problem can be that employee doesn't have required access to the service of ESS and others application of portal. Check it once with basis team.

Hi,
I'm confused now too... anyway, Praveen is right, I wanted to give you a hint nevertheless:
If somehow possible, you should manage your user-mapping from R3 to Portal like this:
1. Assign R3-Users to Pernrs via IT105, so every Pernr has a User.
2. Make Portal Roles with Scenarios which should be visible to a cer tain group of users.
3. Make R3-Roles consisting of authorization regarding the respective Portal Roles
4. Map The Portal Roles on The R3-Roles.
This way you can practically manage everything via R3 and only have to map Portal Obects to R3 Objects ONCE.
regards, Lukas
