What is the significance of compounding tab in an Info object?

To explain in simple words lets take example of Cost Center compounded with Controlling Area (most commonly used in SAP).

There may be a Cost Center abcd in Controlling Area 1000 as also another Cost Center abcd in Controlling Area 2000.

But to get the idea of exact Cost Center we are referring to we have to specify the Controlling area as well along with the Cost Center.

So in this case the Cost Center infoobject will be compounded with the Controlling area infoobject.
