SAP Install Error( Starting Instance Phase )

Former Member

Hello Experts,

Lets start from the beginning; I'm still a student and I luckily found a software company that wanted to hire me before I finished my studies. I started doing some QA and now they moved me to SAP Testing. Now the thing is, I'm the only one doing SAP here. Nobody knows about it or anything. The only thing my boss wants from me is to install SAP (should be easy right?) on a local system here.

Here is my problem. I've found countless guides on how to install it. with detailed steps. None of them worked out. I'm always getting one particular error. Its at the starting instance phase (27 of 47)

Attached is a Screen shot of the Error ( SAP Error.bmp )

Please note in the screen shots the SAP System ID is APZ, and in my error the SAP System ID is AP0. The error screenshot was taken at a different attempt to install.

There is also a .RTF Documents with the detailed steps I followed to install SAP. (SAP_Install_guide_Modified.rtf)

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I can also attach the error logs that I get if its useful.

Thanks a lot guys! please let me know

Thanks, Eric

Seems like a problem to start the instance, check dev_disp and dev_w0 for errors and post them here. You'll find those at /usr/sap/<sid>/<instance>/work

I still started the installation with 36GB, lets hope that won't mess it up,

I've gotten a new error at Phase 18 of 47, in the import ABAP.

Here is the error

So I just keep clicking retry, and it worked out great... now im on to phase 20 of 47, lets hope everything goes well from here.

You should have read the errors in the import logs... if there was a problem during the import load then most likely will be an issue later.

hi Juan and spantaleoni,

My current page file was 2GB, since my RAM is 12GB, should I still use 3X more? so 36gb of page files?

Usually a 20Gb page file is good enough when running a 64bit windows box.

Good luck

Seems like the dispatcher is crashing but you have not posted the full log... I can presume you either have a problem with your instance parameters or your kernel is not the right one.

Can you add the rest of the dev_disp log?

Sorry, missed the log link...

    • ERROR => <EsNT> paging file too small for 2044 MB mapfile [esnti.c 1186]

Seems like you are running out of memory... whats the size of your page file?

The thumb rule is that your page file should be at least 3 times the size of your physical memory

For PagingFile is raccomended min. 4096Mb (both Initial Size and Maximum Size, and not "extend dinamically")

Hello Juan,

Thanks for the quick reply!

The dev_w0 was empty, but the dev_disp has some text in it. Here is everything that seems like a error to me..
