Hi Experts,
I am having problems logging on to my newly installed ERP (on my stand alone system via a virtual machine- Oracle virtual box) via gui 720, I keep getting the following message:

there is no firewall on the server(it is a virtual machine) no antivirus is installed and windows firewall is turned off; i can successfully ping the IP.

Something is wrong with your installation.
Please shutdown your database completely and start it again:
sqlplus / as sysdba
shutdown immediate
startup
Then check the Oracle alert_<SID>.log whether the database is completely started.

So it seems either that
- the network connection is not working between the SAPGUI and the server you're trying to reach
- there's a firewall between that prevents the system from being accessed (or the local firewall on the server itself)
- the system was started but died due to a problem.
