Dear Faisal,

1. One of the simplest differences is, inspection plan is at plant level while material specification is not at plant level.

2. If you deal with inspection plan, you may have different inspection parameters plant wise. For example let us assume material u201CSTEEL SHEETu201D is common to 2 plants, 1000 and 2000. In plant 1000 you inspect length and width but in plant 2000 you inspect Diagonal and few chemical parameters. For such type of requirement, you use inspection plans.

3. But if the inspection parameters are same for all plants, then material specification is useful.

4. At a time you can have either materials specification or inspection plan for a material. Otherwise lot may go to CRTD status.

The settings for this lie in material master QM view. Go to detain view where you assign inspection type. There you have to tick either on material specification or inspection with task list checkbox as per the case.
