MDM Work shop questions

Dear All

May I request you all, I required a serious help and I am very new SAP MDM, But I come from SAP EPM back ground..

I am going to customer site need to attend work shops

- What questions need to be ask Business and

- Migration and ETL challenges

- Any specific templates to Data collection from Business.

- How to bring all the business users on same page

Small back ground:- They are having 33 source system to be pulled to MDM..

THIS WOULD BE great help from you all.

Hi Srini,

There is no hard and fast mantra for this.

I guess you are going to customer side for requirement gathering and explaining the technicalities of solution you are going to implement on high level.

What questions need to be ask Business and Migration and ETL challenges

-> Ask about current landscape.

-> Process flow for various scenarios.

-> Who owns what?

-> Take in detail the attributes in scope.This will list out all the fields which are to be taken inside the MDM system and which table and system they are coming from.

-> Data creation/modification/deletion scenarios.

-> Current data standardisation methods/Validations/assignments.

Once you gather these informations you can go ahead with a refined approach on the ETL challenges based on the source you are picking data from and the ETL tool you are using.

- Any specific templates to Data collection from Business.

This again depends on the methodology you are using to implement the solution and your company based templates.

In normal practice you should prepare a AS-IS document listing out all the details of current landscape,processes,standards,approval workflow,wish list etc

- How to bring all the business users on same page

I think you can help the process but it is business users have to do this.

Your client side manager can help drive the workshop and then freeze on details.

After this phase you prepare a technical solution document,which fulfill their requirements.
