Hi Rajan,
Björn Panter has a document that explains very well how to customise the EAN number, this is the link:
But, I can give you a quick explanation about EAN customising.
1.- The path for EAN customising is: SPRO > Logistic -General > Material Master > Settings for Key fields > International Article Numbers (EANs).
2.- Select "Define Number Ranges for EANs/UPCs. Here, you need to check if you have a range with 12 digits.
Why? The EAN number is with 13 digits, but, the last digit is calculated. If you want to see how this is calculated, you can check the following link:
http://www.gs1.org/barcodes/support/check_digit_calculator
3.- If you have the range, then, go to "Define Attributes of EANs/UPCs" and check the code "UC" or the code that you will use for your EAN numbers. Then, check if this code has defined the external and internal number range and if it has a check-digit algor.
If this is set, then, you can create your EAN number in the material master data - Basic data 1 with 13 digits without problem.
Here, I am explaining the EAN number that is numeric and not alphanumeric.
Please, let me know your results.
Kind regards,
SP
