Hi All,

We are having PI 7.1 with Oracle 10g, we are planning to migrate oracle database 10g to 11g.

My query is that what all will be the effects on SAP if we migrate to 11g.

Advise us in this regard.

Thanks,

Sreekanth

Hi All,

I have started the oracle 11g software installation. I copied software to server and extracted. I have copied lates installation scripts also and i given full permission to the dum also, But when i started the prerequisite check through the command ,/RUNINSTALLER -check with the orasid user the output screen shows all the points are failed.

It shows the Physical Memory, orasid failed but 16 GB of RAM and i logged on as orasid.

Please suggest me to solve this.

Hi,

Thanks for all, i have one more query.

When i am checking the notes for Oracle upgrade. I found out that BR*Tools version 700 is not supported to Oracle 11g ( limited support ) according to the note: 1430669.

Our environment is ECC 6.0 on oracle 10.2 and we are having BRTools version 700 patch 52. So can we upgrade to 11g and install BRTools 700. Or can we install BR*Tools 710

Is BR*Tools 710 is compatible for SAP 700 kernel because we are having Kernel 700 in our landscape.

Regards,

BR*Tools 7.10 works and supported with SAP NW 700 and it is supported for both - 10g/9i

BR*Tools 7.20 works and supported for SAP NW 700 and it is supported for both - 10g and 11g.

So when you upgrade from 10g to 11g, please install BR*Tools 7.20.

Read the Note 12741 - Current versions of BR*Tools and SAPDBA

The BR*Tools 7.00/7.10 can be used for all SAP releases that run with an Oracle 10g database, or an Oracle 9.2
The BR*Tools 7.20 can be used with all SAP releases that run with an Oracle 10g or 11g.

Thanks

Hi,

Also when i checked in the software download center i found only RDBMS software oracle 11.2.0.2 for IA64 but i am not able to find RDBMS software oracle 11.2.0.2 for PA-RISC.

And also i found oracle 11.2.0.2 for 64bit. We have Development server is on PA-RISC and Quality on IA64.

11.2 is released on PA-RISC, it is 64bit only.

Hello sreekanth,

For cluster environment you need to make the below canges on both the nodes:

1. Install client software and related configuration.

2. Change user environment.

3. Updating BRTOOLS

There are database upgrade guides available:

http://service.sap.com/instguides

--> Database Upgrades

--> Oracle

Read them and check the notes mentioned in that guide. This should answer all your questions.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. I just want to know what will be effect on existing PI 7.1 like any problems if migrated to 11g or what steps to be taken before migrating to 11g.

Thanks,

I can share one of my experience after I upgraded Oracle 10 to 11. After the respective upgrade, I faced with a performace problem, because of the table compression. After I corrected the segment, the problem is solved. I didn't face with a further problem after the upgrade.

Before the upgrade, take an offline backup of your existing system and apply the steps in readme.htm of the upgrade package.

Hi Sreekanth,

At the SAP business logic point of view, nothing will be changed. From Oracle RDBMS point of view, there are some new features. Please find the foremost features, below;

  • Advanced compression

  • Oracle Direct Network File System Client

  • Transparent tablespace encryption

  • Less memcpy calls and support for async network I/O calls (it has a positive effect on BI systems)

  • Offline redolog compression during log shipment

  • Flashback data archives

Best regards,
