hi,
Could anyone tell me wht is diff. between Dimension & Details ?
Regards,
hi,
Dimension:Focus of analysis in a query. A dimension maps to one or more columns or functions in the database that are key to a query.
e.g. Customer
Detail:Provides descriptive data about a dimension. A detail is always attached to a dimension. It maps to one or more columns or functions in the database that provide detailed information related to a dimension.
e.g. Customer's Phone number, address etc...

Dimensions: Dimensions usually represent the nouns in our database. For example, dimensions can represent
employee IDu2019s, car models, company stocks, dates, etc. We usually total on dimensions. For example,
we may want to know the sales volume for a certain date, the number of new employees in a given
month, or the total value of the stocks in a portfolio
Detail - provides descriptive detail data about a dimension (maps to one or more columns or functions). For example, a month name in time dimension can be a detail of month index.
Since there is different functionality available on dimension objects vs detail objects, you should just determine what is most appropriate.
For example, you cannot use details in drill hierarchies, for report ranking, or to merge objects across multiple data providers. So, if you need to do any of those things then you have a dimension.one more thing Detail Objects don't merge.
