Regarding Support Packs

Hi,

We have SRM 5 system which is dual stack. However, there is some inconsistencies in terms of SP level for the abap stack and the java stack.

ABAP stack is updated to SPS level 15. However, java stack is not updated and its at Old SPS06 level

We are now going ahead with applying stack from SPS 16 to 18. We would like to know how to go ahead with the java stack since its not at level SPS15.

Can we apply as below :

1) Kernel upgrade + SPS 16-18 for ABAP stack

2) Once that is finished - SPS 07 to SPS18 for JAva stack for SAP Netweaver 7.0 ?

Please suggest.

Regards,

Sandeep.

Hi,

Follow these steps:

1. Upgrade ABAP stack first to 18

2. Check your JSPM version and if required ,upgrade that.

3. then Upgrade your JAVA stack directly to 18 using JSPM(SAP recomends JSPM)

Hi,

Here are basis difference between abap and java stack...

ABAP stack - you need to apply serially like SAP_ABAP 1, 2......N.

JAVA Stack u2013 In java stack there is no dependences and they are cumulative in nature in short you can directly apply java support pack 18.

Here is your steps:

1. Upgrade latest version

2. Upgrade JSPM latest version

3. Upgrade abap using spam from 16 to 18

4. Apply directly java patches 18 using SDM

Thanks,

Use JSPM instead of SDM

Hi,

In that case, I can do the kernel upgrade + abap support pack stack from source SPS15 to target SPS18.

Then apply Java Stack directly to SPS18 levels?

Please confirm.

Best practice is to update ABAP and then JAVA, so answer is yes.

Hi,

Few Java dynpro components depend on ABAP stack level. So it would be good to update JAVA to 16 and only

specific components be updated to 18 if necessary. You can download stack of 16 with stack.xml from solman mopz or directly from market place and use JSPM stack option to apply it.

Hi Sandeep,

I think its better to bring Java to the same level of ABAP first and then do support stack upgrade.

In this approach there is less possibility to run into errors.

Thanks,
