Generating Checksums

Hi experts,

Is there a way to generate checksums, that show, if there have been any changes in the data? If the data changes, the checksum will do so, too.

Yes, of course!

BCS data is typically stored to a realtime InfoCube in SAP BW. The question is to get a checksum over all records in the cube, that represents the current state. If only one record will be changed, e.g. by user entries, the checksum will also change. So a user from department is able to get information about proceeded changes to the data only by looking at the checksum. Furthermore he can assure, that no changes have been taken to already completed month or year closes.

This kind of check can be perfromed due to the "status management" in the BCS consolidation monitor : for each task, such as the data collection as you mention, you can determine the status, who and when has executed it. You can also use the "preceding tasks" concept in order to be sure that the tasks are executed in the relevant sequence.

Finally, in from EHP2, you can activate the "Status Reporting" DSO which enables to create reports on the progress of task processing or task group processing in the consolidation monitor.

Hi Collet!

Thank you for your answer!

What do you mean with "preceding tasks" concept? Is there any documentation about this?

You wrote, that EHP2 would give new functions to the analyze the status changes by activating "Status Reporting" DSO. Is this a in box function in SEM-BCS or do we have to implement this function with new BW capabilities from EHP2 on our own? Perhaps you have some links or further resources for this topic?

Sure. Everything is described in the SAP documentation :

http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_05/helpdata/EN/62/f7e73ac6e7ec28e10000000a114084/frameset.htm

Look at the chapter Execution of consolidation within the consolidation monitor > task sequence for the preceding tasks concept

Look at the chapter Reporting > Status reporting for the EHP2 functionality
