What exactly is Business Objects?

Hello All,

I am working on an SAP HR Reporting Project. We currently run several large data dumps out of SAP then manipulate the data in Excel. We also have BI, however very few know how to use it. We would like to enable the users out in the Business to pull and manipulate their own data.

Questions:

1. Is Business Objects a tool that we could use to create templates attached to BI and then have the Business Users select the report from their own workstations and be able to use the report as is or manipulate the data if they wish?

2. Are there any good demos that would give me a good understanding of the capabilities of Business Objects and how to implement and use it?

hi Jeanette,

1. yes. we can create some templates based on Business Scenarios. These templates can be re-used while developing reports.

Canned reports - Pre-designed reports (Generally developed by Report Experts)

Ad hoc reports - Reports on the fly (Generally developed by Business Users)

Data manipulations can be done at reporting layer as well as Universe layer(Bridge between reports and DB).
