Migration of BW systems (Federation)

Hi! Experts,

We have two divisions in our company with their own instances of BW. One sector is on BW 3.5 and the other is on BW 7.0. Instead of upgrading the BW 3.5 system to BW 7.0, we are wondering if it is possible to just migrate the database and replicate all objects from the BW 3.5 system of one sector to the BW 7.0 system.

We would like to know if it is possible to do it through Federation. Is it required to first upgrade the existing BW 3.5 system to BW 7.0 before we federate data to the other system. Has anyone done this before?

Any advice regarding this is highly appreciated.
