Does SAP PLM 7.0 include QM solution?

Hi Everyone,

Am working on PS solution which we know is part of SAP PLM 7.Am now interested in improving my skillset and was thinking of certifying in SAP QM/SAP EHS(have overview of it).

However,i have few doubts here.,like

1.Does SAP PLM 7 include SAP QM? If no,would it be included in near future.??

2.If SAP QM would not be part of PLM7,then would EHS be a better option(certification unavailable in India)?

I would like to understand from the experts if it would be advisable to invest learing QM given the way SAP PLM market is evolving(because QM is part of generic PLM process). Please advise.

Hi,

the SAP roadmap does not foresee to technically rip out QM from ERP. QM capabilities that are used today in conjunction with SAP PLM are typically (quality) notifications, that can potentially trigger ECRs or ECOs for issue resolution. QM as a whole is much more focussed on logistics and manufacturing process though.

I agree that what is "core PLM" today, and QM and EH&SM (focus on product compliance) are very much in line to what the BoB competition is positioning as their PLM solution. From a positioning and also implementation standpoint (parts of) these will typically be part of the scope. The need for use of quality notifications though will more and more vanish as customers will adopt the Engineering (Change) Record capability of SAP PLM 7.01.

In my opinion you should focus on "core PLM" topics as mentioned earlier, if this is also an option for you.

Hi,

I would like to point out that QM is a functionality that ties into Product Lifecycle Management in general, and in the past was positioned with SAP PLM, talking WinGUI functionality in SAP ERP.

Going forward, it will remain a topic closely tied to (SAP) PLM. Both QM and EHS are SAP ERP functionalities that have close links with the SAP PLM capabilities, e.g. talking about product compliance, product safety.

The key question iswhether you want to become a "core PLM" specialist (DMS,Material,BOM,ECM,Classification,VC, CAD integration), a QM specialist or an EHS specialist. To cover it all is impossible.

Regards, Ulf.

Completely agree with what you are saying ok.

But the confusion is still there.SAP is positioning PLM 7.0 as its holistic PLM offering,so am thinking for me to grow,i would have to have a good grasp over SAP PLM7 and next releases. It would require me to have good overview on all solutions part of SAP PLM 7 and above.

Now when you are say that QM is closely linked to ERP and PLM(generic PLM),am thinking whether SAP roadmap plans to remove QM from ERP umbrella and put it under SAP PLMX.0 umbrella in future. If yes, then it makes sense to learn QM.Because ultimately QM and EHS would complete the picture for SAP PLM.

This is a good topic for debate.Hope you are understanding my confusion now.Your inputs will be highly apperciated.Thank you.
