Former Member

Hi,

I am now trying to update the kernel from 700-146 to 700-278 in current MSCS environment.

I have tried the following process:

1. take SAP/Oracle group offline

2. bring disk resource online (/usr)

3. replace the old kernel as the new one /usr/sap/PRD/SYS/exe/uc/NTAMD64

4. update the c:\windows\Sapcluster

5. update the dll file located in c:\windows\system32(SapClus.dll,Saprc.dll,Saprcex.dll)

6. bing the oracle group online (OK)

7. bing the SAP group online (failed)

Would you pls. give some suggestions on this?

Many thanks.

BR,

Randy

Hi Randy,

AS Manish mentioned stop SAP, DB from the Failover Cluster Management, MMC and close the MMC. (If MMC is open, even though if you stop SAP services, it will start again).

2). stop the services related to SAP and DB

3). Take a backup of existing NTAMD64 and overwrite old kernel with new kernel in same NTAMD64 directtory. (if you use new NTAMD64 directory, sometimes there will be permission issue which might cause SAPCPE to fail). So,use same NTAMD64 directory.

4). start the DB and SAP services and start SAP.

Thanks,

Arjun

Hi,

Can you please exactly show what error you are getting while trying to start SAP ?

Thanks,

Hi Deepthi,

Sorry, I can not repeat the error now, since I have restored the old kernel.

I just want to check whether the process is okay or not.

Many thanks.

In general the prcess should be

Extract the new kernel in a temp directory

backup current kernel

stop sap

Stop database

clean shared segments if any (Unix)

replace old with kernel with kernel from step 1

run saproot.sh SID

start DB

Start SAP

Since you have clustered controlled environment there should be some additonal steps like bringing the resources offline and online.

P.S : If you can not provide logs or have already backed up you may want to close this forum

Cheers !
