i've created a purchase requisition using pounds as the Base Unit of Measure on the Material Master Record. we purchase several chemicals in other units of measure, such as gallons or drums. Thus, we need to be able to purchase these chemicals using Alternative Units of Measure on the PR and PO, but we need to be able to receive for them in pounds to be consistent with our inventory since all of these will be issued out in pounds. I am aware that SAP allows the PO to be created in an Alternative Unit of Measure specified on the Material Master Record, but we need to have the requisition expressed in the Alternative Unit of Measure as well.
The system picks up SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) which is Base UOM at Purchase Requisition. All Alternate UOMs maintained in Material Master will be picked up while Making a PO or performing a Goods Movement (GR/GI) where based upon your settings you can select the desired UOM while the system will still maintain by default value of Base UOM in SKU.
PR is internal document, hence its quantity is expressed in the stock keeping unit, which is your base unit, and nothing else than the unit you internally use.
why do use a base unit which you do not want in your documents?
