rootpre.sh with Oracle 11G Installation on AIX 6.1

We are upgrading to Oracle 11G from Oracle 10.2.0.4 on AIX 6.1 and ECC6.

We are running Oracle 10G and SAP application while installing 11G

Oracle binaries (obviously in a new oracle 11G home) , while

installing Oracle 11G binaries we have to run rootpre.sh , Just

wondering if we have to shut down existinig oracle 10G while running rootpre.sh for

11G.

Based on the above answer,we need to plan the upgrade as this

will decide the length of downtime with Oracle upgrade, your reply will

be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Al Mamun

IMHO, rootpre.sh is safe to be executed while Oracle is running. I think that on AIX 6 it doesn't need to load any kernel extension as on lower AIX levels. In any case, if the script needs Oracle to be shut down or the server to be restarted, it will tell you. So you can run it now - if it finishes OK, you are done. If it tells you that you must stop Oracle or reboot, you can plan it.

No need to shutdown the 10g instance, don't know what this comment about the binaries means, they are installed to the new 112 path.

Did it many times without shutdown of the 10g instance.

Hi,

It will update all the binaries so you have to shutdown oracle.

Thanks,
