we have a german user, he expects the texts coming from homepage in spro to be controlled by browser language setting, is this possible.
What all language settings can effect the text coming from homepage configuration in spro.
1) portal language for the user
2) su01 language setting for the user
3) browser language setting for the user
4) JCO language setting for the meta connector for ESS
The user is expecting that the browser language settings would itself control the text transaltion for ESS.
Is this possible??
Hi Saket,
1. Clear the JCo language settings, that will make it pick up the user's login language.
2. Log onto your ECC System in german language (DE)
3. Make the IMG homepage framework settings in this language.
Now, when the user logs onto portal with browser language setting for German, the HPF will deliver accordingly (in German).
In short, yes, it is possible

Hi Lucas,
Thnks for the update. Please further advice:
1. Clear the JCo language settings, that will make it pick up the user's login language.
we have done this, by default no language has been set for the user in su01, didnt solve the purpose.
2. Log onto your ECC System in german language (DE)
no language settings has been maintained for any user in su01 for the user.
3. Make the IMG homepage framework settings in this language.
what exactly do you mean by this, please throw some more light on the same.
Now was have :
a) no language set in the JCO
b) no language set in su01 in the backend.
c) would now the browser language settings be enough to handle the homepage text i
rgds, Saket
I meant you should log onto your System with your Development-User in GERMAN language (hence DE) on sap-logon. Hence everything will be in German. Then you go to Spro to your area group pages and area pages and so on and maintain the german Text there. The description fields in HPF SPRO can be maintained for any language installed.
I.E. you can log on on english, go to HPF maintain area pages or the like. Log off.
Log on on french, go to HPF maintain the same area page, description will be empty, maintain it again. Log off.
Log on on German, go to HPF maintain the same area page, description will be empty, maintain it again. etc etc
Get the idea?
best regards, Lukas
portal language is not determined by backend ie r/3! It usually is browser
Now automatic translation of ESS iviews is already available in XLF files of the BP. so this should be done automatically.
All languages are not supported, but german, swedish etc are already available
of course for some specific texts you need to the changes in Homepage customisation via ptarq or personalisation
Portal user profile.

Please have a look at the Note 947081, Now on a broader level
this can be achieved by the Note mentioned above.
the hierarchy of what locale a component will be shown in the portal,
will be :
1)component- if he have a locale define
2)Portal mandatory locale -( that was my suggest)
3)user locale
4)browser locale
5)Portal default locale
6)System locale
Could you please check the language maintained for the JCO Connections,
"SAP_R3_HumanResources and SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics " ?
Normally no language should be maintained for the above mentioned JCO's
If you have maintained any language for the JCO's ,kindly put it
blank.
- JCO Connection
they should be used with language blank. We just recomend to put a
language here, if everybody in the portal will use this language.
Please set them to blank, especially the connections mentioned in:
