Hi experts,
could you please explain in more detail the purpose of creating data upload cycles in the data management tool?
I do not really get that from the explanation within the SPM online help.
As far is understand it, there can only be one active cycle at a time anyways.
So what is the purpose of maintaing multiple cycles? Is there any advantage in creating a new cycle any time I load new data?
Thanks in advance,
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
The original intent was to mark every load with the date range for which it was intended for. When loading historic data you might break your loads into quarters. For example you might create upload cycles for Q12010, Q22010....when loading data for Q1 of 2010 you want to activate the appropriate upload cycle and load it through. For the next set of data mark the appropriate upload cycle active and load it though. And since upload cycle is available as a dimension users can choose to filter on it to look at appropriate data.
But since this information can be loaded as part of data (in other dimensions) this is not a requirement. Hence lot of customer create one upload cycle 'ALL' and have it active all the time to load data.
Regards,
Rohit
