Copy / export data to QAS from Production (PRD)

Hello all,

In our PRD system DB size is around 220 GB. But in QAS DB size is around 140 GB

When comparing with the PRD environment, QAS is having very less amount of data.

We are thinking of moving some most recent data portion to the QAS, so that functional team can do better QA and testing procedures in QAS.

What are the methods that we can use to achieve this. As of my knowledge, one option that we can use is client copy

OR else Can we create a new client with PRD data .... ?

Is it possible to just copy / export from a time period.

For example all data that exists until end of 2010 (no need to have data in 2011). Can we copy these only data to QAS.

I think when DB is growing , it take more and more time to export all the data from PRD to QA system.

So what are the other options available in SAP to export certain portion of PRD DB to QAS (ex: to a specific date)?

thanks n regards,

Hi Zerandib,

You will have to a use a system copy tool like SAP TDMS, which also requires that you have a SAP TDSM Server in your landscape.

Or you can use a different product like EPI-USE DSM (Data Synch Manager) or any of quite a few other products.

Be aware these all have a product use/license cost implication. Just google SAP SYSTEM COPY TOOL and you will see there are quite a few different companies that offer solutions for these.

Kind Regards,

Hi Johan,

Thanks for the above answer. This is helpful. Do you have any idea how much does SAP TDMS cost? Also is the migration server included if SAP ECC is already there or we need to purchase that as well?

Hi

You can try with SAP TDMS as there is lot of options for using it like : Date specific ./ company code specific or even only transcatonal data option .

Its a vry good product for creating a replica of Production System

Hi,

TDMS is useful to transfer data from a production system to an other system but it is expensive to buy and it is very powerful but also complex to use.

For such a small production database, a system copy (with backup restauration) should be the easier way to go.

1. You can make a client copy using existing client or new client.

2. You cannot select data using dates in client copy .

3. To select specific data you need to use other tools like SAP TDMS or other third party tools

4. Instead of client copy; system copy is better option. This is recommended way to create test system from Prod.

Please refer to documentation of system copy @

Hello

If team needs the latest production data along with recent cutom code in Q system then you do a system refresh and import all the transports which are needed for the testing prupose.

Which will give the lastest production data as well you can import the recent cutom program which are needed.

Hi vivek,

System copy is the best option but make sure you have enough free space in QAS to copy PRD.

Thanks,
