Do we need SAPCCM4X for SMD?

Gurus:

I am not sure whether SAPCCM4X is needed for SMD.

i have checked my SMD training material and only SMD/IS agent are mentioned.

Would you please share your experience?

This topic can be confusing because people often confuse "monitoring" with "diagnstics". Monitoring is used to notify you when an issue occurs. Diagnostics is the tool you use to figure out where the problem is. These are two different areas of Solution Manager.

For Solution Manager Diagnostics you do not need the SAPCCM4X agent. Data collection for Diagnostics is done through the SMD agent. Even for PI systems, the SAPCCM4X system is not used for Diagnostics.

You do need SAPCCM4X for System Monitoring (up to SolMan 7.01... Probably not required for SolMan 7.1 due to major changes in the architecture). This is true especially if you want to get notifications of issues via email ("autoreactions").

So the answer to you question is that if you are ONLY using Solution Manager Diagnostics, and NOT System Monitoring, you do not need SAPCCM4X.

Hi

Basically Solution Manager Diagnostics required for SAP Web Application Server JAVA Stack in your SAP Solution.

so if your landscape has only Java related componets like : SAP Enterprise Portal, SAP Exchange Infrastructure, CRM Internet Sales, mySAP ERP Employee/Manager Self Services you requrie only SMD.

But if you goes to monitor CRM, XI systems sapccm4x has to be installed.

SAPCCM4X

The monitor ABAP instance of an SAP system, This agent creates an alternative connection route between the monitored instance and the central monitoring system (CEN).

SMD AGENT

The solution manager disgnostic is used to carry out centralized analysis and monitoring of the SAP Netweaver system landscape. It helps to simplify the task associated with root cause analysis.

Architecturally, the SMD is made up of four (4) main components namely:

• SAP Web AS ABAP

• SAP Web AS Java

• Willy Introscope: Used for performance analysis and optimization. The server component is called introscope enterprise server while the client is called introscope agent.

• Mercury load generator: Used for load generation for web based to identify any bottlenck
