MDM with XI

Hi MDM Experts,

I'm primarily working in XI & have ABAP Programming knowledge.I am interested in MDM & planning to learn.

Will that be much deviating from my current skill set?

It will be great if anyone could tell how XI is related with MDM.

Thanks before-hand,

Sasi

<b><u>XI and MDM Relationsip</u></b>MDM is the master data management software.

XI, as you know is the EAI tool.

One of the scenarios supported by MDM is the Master Data Harmonization and Consolidation.

If you have R/3 and you want to get the Material Master data into MDM, then you use ALE to create the Idocs.

These Idocs will reach XI, and XI would convert this Idoc to XML message.

These XML message conform to the XSD used in Import Manger of MDM for mapping.

These XML messages are read by Import Manager and then stored in MDM Repository.

Scenario 2:

If you are syndicating records to R/3, then the MDM Syndicator creates XML files. These files have to be transfomed to Idocs using Idoc Adapter in XI.

The Idoc Adapter calls the R/3 System and posts the idoc.

Treat MDM as a Receiver or Sender System in XI Integration Directory. Treat MDM as a Business and Technical System in SLD.

Hope this helps.

Hi Sasi,

Well, you are in right track (MDM and XI good combination).

SAP MDM in nothing but master data as in our SAP R/3 Customer Master, Vendor Master, Material Master, Etc.

These Master Data we are maintained in conventional way means individual SAP R/3 and non-SAP itself.

However, these Master Data can store in single point source and then distribute to all after consolidating the master record data.

Here you can understand requirement of XI.

<b>First,</b> we will get the all Master Data (ex. Customer, Material, Etc) from Different sources (ex. SAP or non-SAP or DB) using the scenario

SAPR/3---> XI--> MDM (Outbound to SAP R/3 or Inbound to MDM)

<b>Second,</b>

Then we will do the all the necessary things in MDM.

<b>Third,</b> we will syndicate/ distribute the consolidated Master Data to all the Systems using this scenario

MDM-> XI-> SAPR/3 (Outbound to MDM or Inbound to SAP R/3)

I hope this will be very helpful to ALL and rate this as Points

Sincerely,

Bala

Hi,

Refer to this thread..It deals with the same topic..

Also, have a look at similar thread..

Learning MDM wont be deviating from your skill set but would be like adding to your skill set.

Your XI skills would be used here in case of harmonisation scenario.

XI shall be used as a middleware to communicate betweeen SAP R/3 and MDM.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Tanveer.
