We are in the initial stages to implement SAP MDM. We will be using Enterprise Portal as user front end and PI also.
The volume of data will be around 350,000 that include Customer Vendor & Materials.
Our question is can we install all these components such as MDM, Portal & PI in a single server? Or do we need to have separate servers for MDM, Portal and PI. This may be depends on Development/ QA/ Production.
What is the best way to go for this for each regions such as Development/ QA/ Production?
Thanks in advance
Hello Mike
You can install all this components in a single server.
This is make sense on DEV and QA environment.
Your hardware configuration should be satisfy "Sizing Guide" requirements.
Check sizing giude for MDM:

or for NW:
https://websmp101.sap-ag.de/quicksizing
some information about PI:
/docs/DOC-7807#section2 [original link is broken]
PI Tuning Guide:
https://websmp205.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700007402452005E
As usually your solution depend by many factors as is:
number of connections to your Portal at the same time
size data transfering through PI and queries frequency
etc.

Hi Mike,
We just finished a project like this one for Vendors. Our approach was to have MDM on a Windows OS server, as it is most stable (we had linux MDM, but it was very unstable), Our EP is on Linux or Unix and the PI is another Netweaver Unix server as it's used by different applications. The way we have it is on our NetWeaver 7.2 CE, we're running EP, MDM WebDynpro components, MDM Webservices, BPM processes.
We found it to be the best approach for us and we have this setup for each of our environments Dev, QA and Prod.
Hope that's helpful
Boris
