Release space from tablespace

Dear Experts,

We are using oracle database 10G. one particular tablespace is of 1.5 TB . We have to free around 500 GB .Plesae let me know how to proceed for this .When i checked in brtools i see followig output regarding that tablespace.

2 - Tablespace status (status) ............... ONLINE

3 - Extent management (extent) ............... LOCAL

4 - Segment space managenent (space) ......... MANUAL

5 - Backup status (backup) ................... NO

6 - Number of files in tablespace (files) .... 281

7 - Number of autoextensible files (autoext) . 0

8 - Total tablespace size in KB (total) ...... 3379782080

9 - Used space in tablespace in % (used) ..... 54.83

10 - Free space in tablespace in KB (free) .... 1526570432

11 - Maximum tablespace size in KB (maxsize) .. 3379782080

12 - Maximum extension size in KB (extsize) ... 0

13 - Allocated disk space in KB (space) ....... 3379786496

14 - Number of free extents (freext) .......... 63676

15 - Largest free extents (largest) ........... 4063232:4063232:4063232:3883008:3809280

Appreciate your help for quick response .Please let know how to plan for this activity as well.

Would you like to gain the 500 gb to free disk, back?

Could you clarify the question?

If yes, then you need to reorganize the tablespace.

Hi orkun,

from given screenshot you can see around 1.5 TB unused space avaialable in this particualar tablespace .I want to free around 500 GB space back to OS .

Please let me know if you need more clarification .

Hi Arun,

Ok. I understand the issue very well.

In this case, you need to reorganize the tablespace. Check the note "Note 646681 - Reorganizing tables with BRSPACE

" and search for "IV. Tablespace reorganization with BRSPACE as of Oracle 10g", for the details. Note that LONG fields must be converted beforehand into LOB fields.

As an additional information, it will not only necessary to get back free space to the disk array, but also increasing performance of the database.
