Hi everybody,
I need to know:
1. What are the adventage/disaventage in having global and local data in MDM?
2. Why would you recommend having global data in MDM and local data in ECC?
Thanks in advance and regards,
Alejandra González
Hi Alejandra -
MDM system act as a central HUB for master data irrespective of SAP ECC or any other system's data. so it is always recommanded to store global data in MDM system and from there Global data can manage, maintain and distributed smoothly to various systems.
you can also store local data in MDM, but it will unnessesary down your system's performance if it is much. and as per best practice maintain only key data alsong with your global data to MDM system.
as far as other systems are concern where we can mantain the local data and it can be linked up with global data later as per the business needs.
hth
thx

Hi Alejandra,
There is no hard rule that local data should not be stored in MDM.
Based on the requirement you can store them in MDM.
The main disadvantage of storing local data without proper need is that it affects the performance of the MDM system due to heavy load.
Local data is recommended to be in ECC itself as ECC still stands the source to create Sales order/Purchase order etc., They are not created in MDM.

Hello Alejandra González
If your local data are master data - you can store it in MDM.
If you have many information systems in your MDM landscape and their are using your local data
- make sense to store it in MDM
In other case -no.
