Gurus,
What is purpose of working with inbound delivery & GR with reference to PO.
In which scenario is Inbound delivery concept is used?
Inbound Delivery is part of SAP MM - Transportation module.
Inbound delivery is basicaly used in case of IMPORTS. At the time of custon clearance of Import Item Inbound delivery is created & when the goods received at factory / plant actual GRN is done.
In SAP Standard Inbound Delivery Means : - Incoming shipments in Materials Management based on purchase orders and shipping notifications

When you are using inbound delivery concept, you will not be allowed to use the IM transactions for goods movement like MIGO & MB1A etc.,
You need to process the goods receipt through inbound delivery using VL32N only. So when you are doing inbound delivery for 5, you can post goods receipt only for that quantity only.

Do u mean to say that we will not be doing MIGO, If we use IBD.
No we do an inbound delivery then we do MIGO by referring to inbound delivery number.I think the only control is the system will not allow to do MIGO more than the IBD qty.
Hi,
1) while creating IBD inventory will not update , it is not possible to make GR for po qty if IBD for 5 no's system will allow you to do gr for 5 only w.r.t. IBD.
2) You can use MIGO w.r.t IBD no issues in that.
IBD will be used when vendor will udate the delivery schedule , ASN (Advance shipping notification) in po conformation tab you will find this options this concept is very much use full if you have SAP SRM module.
Yes when you do inbound delivery the MIGO is possible referring inbound delivery but if your goods are serialized with capturing of serial number as mandatory and and under SPROLogistics execution you have made a setting under SPRO->Logistics Execution>Shipping->Configure Global shipping Data> document flow update( in that case it updates inbound delivery with GR document under document flow) but you will not be allowed to do GR with reference to inbound delivery in MIGO transaction for materials which are seiralized with serial number capturing as mandatory.

inbound del along with transportation module is useful for creating shipment and shipment cot documents so that shipment costs are calculated for each inbound delivery.
if you are creating an inbound del for 10 mt, it is possible to use this inbound data rather than manual entry in service entry sheet for processing shipment costs and transfering it to the transportation PO
