Deleting PAGE and ROLL files

Hello,

We are migrating to ECC6 Ehp4 / WAS701.

In our current systems, during offline backups, we delete the PAGE and ROLL files:

`/bin/rm /usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGS<nr>/data/PAGFIL<nr>`;

`/bin/rm /bin/rm /usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGS<nr>/data/ROLLFL<nr>`;

1. Is still worth doing this in WAS700 EhP1?

2. What is the benefit of doing so?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Benoît,

There's no problem with deleting PAGE and ROLL files at the offline time period. Roll memory is used by application server at the roll-in/out operations if roll buffer is full. Paging is used at the "extract" and "export to memory" operations.

Consequently, it will not make a big benefit. You just can have a free storage for a while, at the application server. Then it will be created by application server, again.

I hope that I clarified the issue,

Hello,

Just to be sure I understand well, the only benefit is a storage freed.

It will be reused when sap server needs to swap.

I was thinking that my colleagues were doing that to clean a possible corruption or something like that.

Would you know if it was the case with old version of Netweaver?

If it is just to gain space temporary, it is not really useful.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

I didn't face with that problem from release 3.0F on. It might be very specific case.

Yes, you are exactly, correct,

Orkun
