Restriction on object linking

Hi,

Can we restrict linking of document to the object for particular document status.

My requirement is, whenever document has status change system should not allow to link that document to any object.

We can lock the DIR but it doesn't restrict the linking of document. I was thinking of using authorization role for this. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
