Hello,

We have planed to upgrade the database Oracle from 10.2.0.2 to 11g.

We are wondering wether there is a risk to upgrade directely to 11g from our current version.

Also, what are the important points to observe and what are the tests to do in SAP before upgrading ?

Many thanks in advance

Regards

Ben

Thanks a lot for your answer,

Indeed, I planned to first upgrade the test system .

But, is there any risk to upgrade in one shoot the current version 10.2.0.2 to 11.0.1.6 ?

Or it's careful to first upgrade to 10.2.0.4 and after a cerrtain time to 11.1.0.6 ?

11.1 is not supported. You need to use 11.2.

Read the documentation first.

SAP recommends that you upgrade Oracle11G from 10.2.0.4. If you try to upgrade to 10.2.0.2 the SAP Oracle scripts will stop the upgrade. I upgraded to 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.4 and it took about 30 minutes ( your hardware may vary ). Than I upgraded to 11.2.0.2.

Just follow the Oracle upgrade guides at

http://service.sap.com/instguides

--> Database Upgrades

--> Oracle

- read all the notes mentioned in the guide

- make sure you use a proper kernel and a proper instantclient

- make sure you apply not only the upgrade itself but also all PSU patches

- take a full backup of the system

I suggest to first upgrade a test and/or qa system and then do the production.
