Hi there,

Let's start from basics, Site is created in IS-Retail / Trade landscape whereas Plant is created in ERP and industry solution other than retail.

Now, though site is created through WB01 and plant is created in IMG, but both are customizing. In IS-Retail landacape, site as store or distribution center is created more frequently due to the nature of the business, thus SAP has provided it as a front-end transaction but it's still a customizing where it touch base with more than 20 tables for doing the relevant configuration depending upon the copy rule adopted.

There are other fundamental differences between Site and Plant like Site has a "Customer" associated to it, if its a store or a "Customer" and "Vendor" associated to it, if its a distribution center to facilitate "Retail" specific business processes where a store is treated as customer, which, in turn sell merchandise to anonymous customer as stores and distribution center has added resposibility for procurement of merchandise for stores supply and act as a vendor for stores.

Plant with ERP is more suitable for manufacturing and staging role where trading is a secondary requirement.

I hope your query is answered reasonably, award the points accordingly.

Cheers

Is the only reason because of we are creating more no of store and DC, so we are creating in transaction??.

Hi there,

you missed the other part of the explanation, where I mentioned the difference between IS-Retail and other industry solution or ERP instance. Site creation (WB01) is only available with Retail industry solution, you can't use it for other industries or ERP as system will issue message that your system need to be setup as retail system.

The other part of the conversation is the rationale that why such flexibility is provided with retail solution is because of the business process requirement of having lot of sites as store and DC due to nature of business.

I hope your understanding is better now with this further details.
