Hi :
Before you check the side sffect, I think you can see this webpage :
http://www.easymarketplace.de/sap-programs.php
THe above is explaining the function of each kernel patch.
For the kernel upgrade, the SAP corrects some errors which exist in the old kernel and raise up the efficiency of the system.
If you want to see the side effect, the solution manager or SAP support protal to check.
Best Regards.

Hello,
As far as you know there are two parts DATABSE independent and dependent, for Kernel upgrade. Thus, following effects might be on your kernel, though they are not quite evident from naked-eyes, but surely these are the effects...
1. The SAPCAR tool will be upgraded and better.
2. R3TRANS will be better.
3. TP tool will be better.
4. R3LOAD will be better.
5. SAPOSCOL will be better.
6. R3UP will be affected.
Apart from the above components/tools there are few others which will be affected. They will be upgraded. With these, there can be new tools which will be added on with the latest kernel patches.
But please note, there can be side-effects also, so it is always recommended to apply Patch before proper research on it's side-effects for that patch level.

Avishek
Hi,
As such from application side you will not see any changes after doing kernel upgrade. But you can check side effect report and related notes of that kernel level from where you can get idea what all problems has been resolved in new release.
Thanks
Sunny
