hi ,

i am very new to max db.

we are trying to do a backup -restore test of our production server on a test server.

os: win 2008, ecc6 with maxdb.

for that i have installed a test server with the same sid as production.i have made a separate db instance on which i have to recover .

the instance is in admin state.also made a medium as same it is on production. copied the two files dbm.knl, dbm.mdf from the run directory of source to the run dir of target. but when i execute the recovery , it gives me a -903 i/o error.

i am doing this through MaxDB GUI.

please let me know if i am missing something.?

thanks

Hello Nishant,

Are you trying to recovery from tape? If yes, check note [1438776|http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1438776]. Also, post the complete error you are getting during the process.

And, the following notes maybe usefull:

Hello Nishant,

Note [822240|http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/822240] has the supported options:

1. Which external backup tools are supported for MaxDB?

- TSM (IBM/Tivoli)

- NetWorker (Legato)

- NetBackup (Veritas)

- Data Protector or Omniback (HP)

- all backup tools that support 'Backint for Oracle'.

- all backup tools that support 'Backint for MaxDB'

Check with your hardware partner or provider of the external backup tool which version of the backup tool to use to integrate 'Backint for Oracle' or 'Backint for MaxDB'.

For detailed information about certified backup tools, see SAP Developer Network (SDN) at the following link under the component BC-SDB:

In order to perform recovery on your test server - you would need to first take data backup of Production server and copy that backup file from the backup device to test server and then create backup medium on your test server pointing to the location where this backup file is located. Hope this helps
